Founded 25 years ago, Calcutta Foundation has worked to support over 500,000 individuals around West Bengal. Calcutta Foundation are dedicated to supporting women in every aspect of their journey to independence, and bringing the potential of rural India to the global stage. Through Apni Kutir, our physical vertical, and SAMA, our digital community, they work on bringing varied opportunities to the most remote parts of the country.
Vision: It is to dramatically change the life of every woman we work with.
Mission: Our philosophy is four fold – advocacy, independence, safety, and access to systematically dismantle gender inequality in India.

SVP-Calcutta Foundation Partnership
SVP has been fundamental in putting into action our vision of Apni Kutir by funding our first ever center in 2021. Since then we have been able to incredibly grow and impact thousands of women. The Kutirs work to financially empower women in some of the most disadvantaged communities and SVP’s grant helped us make this idea into reality. Last year, SVPs capacity building support enabled us to spread our impact and start kurtis in 7 new areas in Bengal.
Story of success
Our relationship with SVP has been invaluable over the last year and a half, even before we became official grantees. From support in our efforts to provide covid relief, to our grant this year, SVP has been a champion of our cause with incredible support and advise. We are so grateful for our lead partners – our discussions go beyond our project and help us grow, both as an organization and as leaders.
The youth mentees led by Youth Mentor Ms. Saumya Varma have been contributing in the areas of social media, research, accounts and several other areas.
