ACCORD – Action for Community Organization, Rehabilitation and Development is a registered society which has been working with the tribal communities of Gudalur for the past 35 years. It acts as the organizational back-up and support for Adivasi Munnetra Sangam, an association of the four major tribal groups in Gudalur with more than 18 000 members. The focus and work of ACCORD has always been to ensure self reliance among the Adivasi community and ensure that they meet and interact with the rest of society on equal terms.
Adivasi Innovation Hub, an incubator of adivasi microenterprises is a recent initiative of ACCORD. The intent of AIH is to develop a new economic base for the adivasi community by triggering the imagination of the adivasi youth and providing them new opportunities.

SVP has been associated with the ACCORD team since the conceptualisation phase of the ‘Adivasi Innovation Hub’ (AIH). SVP has helped ACCORD fine tune the AIH strategy, the goals metrics and has also been a strategic financial investor in AIH. During the course of the first year as the AIH initiative went through the implementation phase, the Lead partners played a critical role in listening to the challenges and sharing their experiences. The LPs were also instrumental in triggering one of the two microenterprises – URUMALA. SVP has also provided a platform and introductions for the FPO – Just Change during the Diwali gifting seasons.
Our intent is to develop Adivasi run microenterprises where the ownership rests completely with the Adivasis.
We have crossed the phase of skilling women – our women are now reasonably comfortably using the electric sewing machines.
The impact for us in the first year is the change we have been able to foster in our adivasi youth.
We share some of their quotes below:
Will to do something – “Money is not the main driver for us to join the initiative, we love the work environment”
Dream – “We are not scared to dream as we are in this together”
Confident and Proud – “I could not talk to people, but now I can confidently face a group, and interact with donors on Google Meet”
Improved Self Image – “Before our community was not interested in what we were doing. Now they are always asking about our work”
