FAQs - Social Venture Partners - SVP India

FAQs

SVP India is a pan-India collaborative philanthropy organization. SVP India’s Vision is to provide individuals with a platform to engage with philanthropy to create fulfilled lifelong givers.
SVP India partners commit to annual donations and work with SVP-partnered NGOs by investing their time and skills. SVP, a sec-8, also accepts donations from private individuals, for-profit companies, and the government.
SVP grants small-to-medium-sized nonprofits that qualify as a good fit for an SVP grant.

For Individuals

When you sign up to become an SVP partner, it means that you are planning to make an annual donation to support SVP and its portfolio of NGOs, as well as committing to spend your time and skills working with these NGOs.

If you live in one of our chapter cities, please fill in this expression of interest form and the General Manager from your chosen city will get back to you with more details shortly.

SVP partners come from all walks of life and varied industries. Some are business owners, some are professionals, some are retired and some are in the early stages of their career. You can learn more about our partners here.

Currently we have chapters in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai & Pune.

When you become an SVP partner, we welcome you, along with another family member of your choosing, to the SVP community. Both of you are eligible to attend events and get involved with our portfolio of NGOs.

There are a variety of roles available at SVP and each of those comes with differing time commitments. Our partner meetings once a month last for around two hours and that’s the entry point of time commitment.

At any given time, we find that 1/3 of our partners are actively involved with the chapter and the NGOs, 1/3 are passively involved – attending meetings and events, and 1/3 are unable to be involved.

SVP understands that life circumstances change. As long as you are interested in the work SVP does and want to join a community of budding philanthropists, you are welcome at SVP.

We’d be happy to talk to you about what is involved in opening a new chapter. Please fill in the partner expression of interest form here and someone from SVP will get back to you shortly.

Our partners lend expertise in every sphere, from marketing and HR to expansion and logistics. We spend time with our NGOs to determine what kind of assistance and intervention we can provide from our pool of highly qualified and diverse partners.
Please visit the apply for a grant page to see if you qualify as a good fit for an SVP grant. Please note that you must be BASED IN ONE OF OUR CHAPTER CITIES.
The SVP Chapter General Manager reviews the grant applications to ensure all compliance and registration requirements are in order and that the NGO matches the SVP criteria. After that, all the eligible NGOs go through the entire grant cycle led by the Grants Committee of our partners. We determine whether the NGO is a good fit based on several factors. A few shortlisted NGOs have to present their work to their complete partner body, after which the partners and Grants Committee deliberate and decide.
SVP India supported NGOs that work in livelihoods, rural development, agriculture, employment, education, youth development, women empowerment, support to the disabled and elderly, sustainable environment, and more.
The reason we only work with NGOs in our chapter cities is that our partners spend a great deal of time at the NGO working with its staff and leadership. Therefore we cannot support any NGOs not located in our chapter cities.

Grant applications are first looked by the chapter General Manager who conducts a first screening to ensure all compliance and registration requirements are in order, and that the NGO largely seems to match the SVP criteria. After that, all the eligible NGOs go through the entire grant cycle, led by the Grants Committee consisting of our partners. We determine whether the NGO is a good fit based several different factors. Most of our chapters offer 12 – 36 month support to NGOs. However, this is based on mutual satisfaction determined by six monthly review meetings.

For Corporates

SVP’s Corporate Partnership Program seeks contributions from corporates that would like to develop their senior executives’ interest and capacity to become significant contributors to the triple bottom-line growth of their company. The program involves voluntary and unrestricted corporate contributions that become part of the shared pool of funds raised by SVP India. The Corporate can nominate 2 senior employees who will engage with SVP NGO investees and would have similar standing as any individual SVP partner.
The corporate organization will receive Tax benefits for the donation made under 80G. The organization will also enable various learning opportunities, volunteering opportunities, pro-bono working opportunities, and other donation opportunities for the company’s nominees. These will help other members engage in social opportunities and initiate their employees into philanthropy.
