Soumi has over a decade of experience in the education and development sector, contributing to system strengthening, public program delivery, and collaborative work with government counterparts and sector partners.
In her most recent role as Consultant, Quality and Teacher Education at UNICEF, she worked closely with the Government of West Bengal on initiatives related to foundational learning, teacher development, and sector planning. She supported the design and scale-up of state-wide Foundational Literacy and Numeracy initiatives, contributed to multi-year program planning, and led capacity-building efforts for teachers and educators, including the development and dissemination of digital learning resources.
Before UNICEF, Soumi spent several years at Vikramshila Education Resource Society as Senior Manager, Programs, where she worked on monitoring and evaluation systems, digital learning interventions, and foundational learning programs across states such as Assam, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. She also began her career teaching Political Science as a Guest Lecturer.
Throughout her professional journey, Soumi has focused on thoughtful program design, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that policy and practice remain grounded in field realities. Her experience across implementation, technical advisory roles, and system-level capacity building positions her well to guide the organization’s work, deepen collaborations, and support long-term growth.
Soumi’s work is grounded in a strong academic foundation, including ongoing doctoral research in Development Studies and previous postgraduate work in Political Science. She has also contributed to publications on education, gender, and social policy, reflecting her interest in linking research, policy, and practice.
Outside of work, Soumi enjoys cooking, exploring new crafts, and hosting friends and family—moments that allow her to unwind, create, and connect.
