Swaccha Belaku, in collaboration with BBMP. Swaccha Belaku is to create India’s first 7* zone as per the Swachh Bharat guidelines over a 3-year period through a multi-stakeholder intervention comprising private civic organizations, local government leadership, civic authorities, environmentally sensitive and active citizens. This project will reduce about 70,000 tons of carbon emissions per year. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), a city that aims to secure 7 star rating shall ensure:
● No garbage or litter is found in any public, commercial or residential location
● 100% of the waste generated is scientifically managed
● A steady reduction in the waste generated to achieve a clean & aesthetically pleasing environment
● Visible beautification of the city

When SVP Bengaluru made waste as one of their focus areas, it laid the foundation for Swaccha Belaku (The Brightness of Swachhata). From finding a resource to making the DPR, till funding it, SVP Bengaluru went all out. During the DPR process, our Lead Partners were generous with their time, and provided valuable inputs. The Chair & Grants Committee were solid in their faith and support for this large, ambitious and “never done before” project. Other partners regularly offered connections to their network, which helped in opening doors. Swaccha Belaku is a collaborative, mutually supportive journey to the STARS.
Story of success
We have reached the DPR release stage. This DPR will be a blueprint for Bengaluru’s municipality which will help them to create best practices in Solid Waste Management across Bengaluru city.
